NACTAL Sensitization at St Ann’s secondary school Otukpo, Benue State

Ohonyeta Care Givers Association OCAG and Network against Child Trafficking Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) on the 6th of November 2023 sensitized secondary school students on child trafficking abuse and labour.

Mrs. Blessing introduced the  members of NACTAL present. She went ahead to define NACTAL and her objectives, She advised the student to listen attentively and ask as many questions as possible as girls are the most vulnerable in the issue of trafficking.

Mrs. Blessing, who spoke on Abuse. She explained abuse as the cruel or violent treatment on a person or animal. She went further to give the various types of abuse and the effect of an abuse on a person. She emphasized on sexual abuse saying it is so dangerous as it can lead to many things like early pregnancy, deadly diseases, drop out of school, and emotional trauma and depression.

Mr. Victor spoke on Trafficking. He defined trafficking as the illegal movement of people from one place to the other for the purpose of exploitation, he further explained why people are trafficked, who is a trafficker, how to know a trafficker and dangers involved in trafficking. Mr. Victor craved their indulgence to be on the look out for themselves in other to avoid being trafficked. He also advised the school authority to introduce a counselling unit where student will be able to air there problem.

Mr. David gave a summary on the Child right law, he stated that it is necessary for children to know their right and when it is been violated. He told the student to report anyone violating their right to the authority so as to prevent abuse, trafficking and forced labour.
